2 min STORY – THE HOSTEL PASSPORT 2/11/08

The HOSTEL PASSPORT

How many of you have a Passport? Please, raise your hand. Thank you.
How many of you do not have a Passport? Please, raise your hand. Thank you.

Well this passport has a little story behind it.

Back in 2000, I lived in a small town outside of London. I became friends with 2 English blokes named Marcello Marchanetti and Charinjit Banga. We decided to meet back up in 2001 in Barcelona and explore Spain and ALL the country had to offer!

We rented a car and were off to explore the country. We had no idea where we were going to stay each night and what ever happened, happened. We slept in the car, on beaches, random beds/coaches and in hostels.

How many of you have stayed in a Hostel before? Please raise your hand. Thank you.

How many of you have seen the movie Hostel?

If you have not stayed in one or seen the movie I recommend both, I have spent a lot of time in hostels throughout my travels and they are an experience!

Our last night of this crazy and mind blowing trip was in Madrid. We stayed in a hostel that night.

Those of you who have stayed in a hostel may remember that many hostels make you leave your passport at the front desk over nite.

Well – after our last night of partying and very little sleep, we stopped by the front desk to pick up our passports. 2 UK and 1 US. We begin our drive back to Barcelona.

At airport, my buddies fly home first; I am standing in the ticket line waiting to fly out. Get to the counter, hand airline personal my passport and she looks at me and asks me “where is your passport?,” HUH, you just looked at. No, she said – where is your passport? As she hands it to back to me.

I looked at the passport and this terrible feeling overcame my entire body. The picture is of Fernando Rodrigez from Puerto Rico, another American Citizen with a US passport.

Stolen identity????

Reflection:
I feel like I didn’t see anything-so in my head with so much undirected energy. Clouded awareness. What an experience! It felt blotchy, like I was only seeing bits, weird. My body was so taken over by looking at my paper, maybe just to jog my brain (didn’t need it) but had it. I felt like I moved back and forth a lot. I feel like I may have leaned back instead of direct energy out. Maybe centered is best? with deliberate movements, instead of uncontrolled undirected energy. CONNECTION: Use body positioning and posture and arms and face to really engage and convey meaning without saying anything!!!!

I look forward to doing this again!
